IN-HOUSE LEGAL COUNSEL

Job Purpose
Ensure that the Bank operates according to the laws, regulations and procedures relevant to Banking Industry. Advise and assist the business on all legal aspects of the banking framework. Liaise with the bank's external legal counsel for follow up on litigation and recovery cases

Responsibilities
• Draft, review and vet MCB agreements and legal documents
• Advise and assist the business on all legal aspects of the banking framework, in connection with the existing laws and regulations, both on a local and international dimensions.
• Work with the bank's external legal counsel as the representative of the Bank and attend Court sessions and other legal matters that are deemed necessary.
• Translate local laws, regulations, conventions, letters or other international legal documents or parts thereof as required by the business.
• Submit claims and work as primary legal counsel and attend court sessions to represent the bank on all legal matters including court cases, and signing of legal documents in court related to assigned Debt Recovery Cases.
• Provide assistance to management in creating internal regulations and policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law/Banking/Finance
• Banking experience and conversant with the related facility agreements, and documentations will be an added advantage
• Over 5 years’ experience in relevant field.
• Fully Conversant in Maldivian Laws and regulations; including but not limited to Banking Regulatory Framework and Anti-Money
•  Laundering laws and regulations
• Excellent knowledge of written and oral communication in English and Dhivehi
